Seekh kebabs are a type of kebab originating from the Indian subcontinent. These kebabs are made with ground beef, mutton or chicken mixed with Indian Pakistani spices, shaped into a cylindrical shape on a skewer and typically barbecued over coal or in a tandoor (vertical clay oven).
This recipe is inspired by the famous Meerut kebab house in Karachi, although it may not be remotely close to the original kebabs taste but i have tried my best to bring it close to the taste of home as much as possible. I hope you enjoy this recipe.

Pakistani Seekh KebabCourse: BBQ
2 Lbs Ground beef Chuck
1 Small Onion paste
1 Tbsp Ginger paste
1 Tbsp Garlic paste
1 Tbsp Chopped fresh cilantro
4 Tbsp Shaan Seekh kebab masala
1 Tbsp Lemon juice
1 Tbs Roasted ground cumin
2 Tbsp roasted coarse ground coriander
2 Tsp Fresh green chili paste
2 Tbsp Papaya paste
1 Tsp Red chili flakes Optional
1⁄4 Tsp Turmeric
1 Tsp Garam masala
2 Tbs Ghee
- In a food processor pulse the ground meat until it starts looking like a thick paste.
- In a lager bowl first combine all the dry spices, ghee, cilantro, onion, ginger, garlic, papaya paste and mix well. Now add the meat and mix well but avoid mixing too much or else the meat will become dry and tough while cooking.
- Take a handful to meat, stick it on the metal skewer and form a kebab using your palm. Grill on charcoal for best result, pan fry or bake in the oven.
- Serve hot with naan or paratha, salad and raita.
